It’s 8 a.m. at the recently
overhauled Santa Cruz campus of Plantronics Inc.
Natural light filters in through “sun tubes” carved into sound-absorbent
ceilings. A few early rising employees choose temporary workstations from a sea
of tables and standing desks. In the background, an indoor waterfall designed to
provide ambient “pink noise” can be heard from a seating area with neon
couches.
The scene may seem de rigueur for
Silicon Valley given the publicity around campus projects at Facebook Inc. or Google Inc. But the model is different for
Plantronics, which designs and produces communication devices like headsets.
