Plantronics fuses suburban campus and off-site work spaces

It’s 8 a.m. at the recently overhauled Santa Cruz campus of Plantronics Inc.
Natural light filters in through “sun tubes” carved into sound-absorbent ceilings. A few early rising employees choose temporary workstations from a sea of tables and standing desks. In the background, an indoor waterfall designed to provide ambient “pink noise” can be heard from a seating area with neon couches.
The scene may seem de rigueur for Silicon Valley given the publicity around campus projects at Facebook Inc. or Google Inc. But the model is different for Plantronics, which designs and produces communication devices like headsets.
