Y Combinator co-founder Paul Graham's announcement last week that his accelerator's alumni startups valuation had grown by $2 billion to a collective $13.7 billion since May has us wondering how that happened.

Most are speculating that it is a jump in the values of a handful of companies at the top of the Y Combinator pile, based on Graham's estimate in June that the top 10 alumni companies accounted for $8.6 billion of its total valuation at the time.
The folks at Seattle startup valuation research firm PitchBook Data compiled a ranking for us of the top 10 valuations they know of among Y Combinator graduates. Some are based on reported valuations when the companies raised funds. Others are based on prices paid when the companies were acquired.
Pitchbook's total valuation estimate is lower than what Graham has offered, which they explained partly on the fact some of the fundings are a couple years old.
Pitchbook doesn't have valuations on all Y Combinator companies either, since it only works on rounds it can confirm are closed.
