$150 million: Flash memory storage startup Pure Storage is in a
four-way tie for No. 9 in this ranking after raising its money in August at a
valuation of slightly more than $1 billion. Its big backers include T. Rowe
Price, Tiger Global Management, Fidelity Financial, Greylock Partners, Index
Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Samsung Ventures and Sutter Hill Ventures. Shown

Pinterest's $225
million funding this week was big, but not the biggest venture round raised by a
U.S. company this year.
The funding led by Fidelity was tied for the third largest of the year. It
topped Pinterest's $200 million February funding, which was the fifth biggest
for 2013.The combined funding of $425 million for the visual bookmarking social network is the most raised by any U.S. company for the year.
