This is why, as parents, you must be on guard against those who would teach your children what to think and why you must be on the front lines of teaching your children how to think.”   This is how to see Alzheimer’s from a new perspective: “To fulfill the purpose of your own life, you must learn greater patience and exhibit that patience publicly and privately. You must possess a greater spirit of gratefulness and effectively demonstrate greater appreciation to others for the purposes they are fulfilling. You must learn to forgive even when another does not reciprocate. Your mother, Mary Chandler, is teaching these things right now. Today she is being used for a mighty purpose that will one day touch tens of thousands of lives through the life of her daughter . . . you. You are still her little girl, and she still loves you more than anything. She does not think in the same way you do anymore. But her soul—that spirit that was your mother—is still your mother.”   This is why morality on its own is useless: “Morality can be exhibited by a person who is not doing what is wrong. A moral person does not lie or steal. But a person can be moral by doing nothing. One can stay in bed all day and remain moral. Now, while morality is not doing what is wrong, character is actively doing what is right. For instance, a person who sees a wrong being done but does not participate in that activity is still a moral person. He did nothing wrong. But to speak up, rather than turn away from an injustice, requires character. Therefore, without the spine to do what is right, it is possible to be a moral person with weak character.”   This is how to not fear death: “Darrel, you think that your sweet wife is at the end, but that is only a lie you have believed. Because your fear has grown, you believe her fear has become greater…which is another lie. You believe she is experiencing something bad that gets worse until there is nothing at all. That, too, is a lie. Here is the truth, Darrel. She is not at the end. She is at the beginning. Her fear has not become greater; it has become less and less until now, her fear is gone altogether.
