Why you arent where you want to be in life coach Vicki

This Is Why You Aren’t Where You Want To Be In Life

What's In Your Way Roadblock Barricade SIgnIf you know me personally or have worked with me as a private coaching client, you have heard this one before.

You have hundreds of thoughts that move through your mind every day.  I would wager that you are unaware of what most of them are.  There are a select few of these thoughts that run over and over in your mind.  These thoughts are what make up your beliefs.  Beliefs are just those thoughts that you think habitually.

Most of us believe that circumstances are what cause us to feel bad or have difficulties.  That is BS!  Circumstances do not have to determine your thoughts.  You get to do that.

If you are not where you want to be in your career, personal fitness, business or relationship, it almost certainly has something to do with your beliefs and thoughts.

Here’s how it works:  You think something, which in turn makes you feel bad.  Because you feel bad, you take certain action (usually ineffective action) and that action leads to the results you get.  This is how your thoughts determine your results.

You can change the less than stellar results by changing what you’re thinking that is causing those results.  You can choose to think something that makes you feel good.  Because you feel good, you will take certain action (usually effective, forward moving action) and that action leads to results.  Probably more positive results than before you changed your thinking.

Stop for a moment and ask yourself in which area of your life you would most like to see an improvement or change.  Got one?  Excellent!  Now go write it in a notebook.  You have a notebook don’t you?  If you’re at all serious about personal growth and development, you have a notebook.  Probably several.  And you write in them.

The area that you would most like to see improvement in (the one keeping you awake at night) is the area you will want to start practicing with.  You are going to consciously choose your thoughts in this area.  To start, you want to begin with paying attention to what thoughts you are already thinking.  Spend a couple of days paying attention to and writing down (in your notebook) the thoughts you habitually think in this one area of your life.  These are the thoughts that got you to where you are today.

Please only choose one area to start with.  For instance, it could be career or relationships.  It doesn’t matter where you start.  Just start in one area.  If you try to apply this to your whole life at once, you run the risk of getting overwhelmed and then you might quit.  We cannot have quitting!

The thoughts that got you to where you are now will not get you to where you want to go.  Hear that.  Repeat it out loud.  The thoughts that got you to where you are now will not get you to where you want to go.  Once you are clear on how you have been thinking, you can choose some new thoughts to replace those old ones.  It will not work to tell yourself that you just won’t think a certain thought.  No, no, no!  You must choose a thought to replace it that makes you feel better than you feel now.

For example:  If you find that you often think things like, “I can’t do that”, you could choose to replace that thought with something like, “I can give this my best shot”.  One of my old standbys was, “I’m not good at that”.  What I say to myself now is, “I’m not practiced at that.  If I practice, maybe I will eventually be good at it”.

In the beginning, you may not catch yourself in the middle of a thought that is painful or disempowering for you.  You might remember it the next day or even the next week.  This is great and this is how this process works.  As you practice this, you will find that you will catch it sooner and sooner.  Eventually, you will catch yourself in the middle of that icky thought and immediately change it.  Then, you will get to the point that you don’t even entertain those ugly thoughts anymore.  Yay!

Simple?  Yes!  Easy?  No!

I invite you to practice this every day.  I promise if you do, you WILL notice a difference in how you feel and in the results you are getting.  If you feel that you would like some help in this area, I give an awesome attitude adjustment.
