Goodbye, Acura. Hello... Tesla.
Tesla Motors Inc. just submitted for permits to build out a new service center at 750 East El Camino Real, according to city records. That site near the intersection of East El Camino at S. Wolfe Road is currently a 11,000-square-foot Acura service center.

The move is part of a dramatic ramp-up in Tesla service centers the Palo Alto-based company is preparing across the country, but especially in California. Tesla's website has "coming soon" logos at six locations in the state, though they do not list addresses. They include the cities of Palo Alto, Sacramento, Santa Barbara, Walnut Creek and Brea.
The service centers are critical to taking care of its growing cadre of customers as Tesla also ramps up production. Tesla CEO and Product Architect Elon Musk told analysts this week the company is on track to produce 21,000 cars by year's end and it saw a slight uptick from previous quarters. The stock is up 300 percent year to date.
Shanna Hendricks, a company spokeswoman, said in an email last month the new Sunnyvale location would be open before the end of the year.
"As we deliver cars it's important to have service conveniently located for our customers," she said.
The new Tesla service location's long automotive history, its size and its location made it attractive, said Randol Mackley of SRS Real Estate Partners, who represented the property owner, Orlando Investments. The existing Acura service center, whose lease was up, will relocate to a yet-to-be-determined spot.
