The numbers (see a slideshow ranking) reflect taxes paid in 2012, and suggest some interesting trends in property ownership: Irvine Co., Google Inc. and Apple Inc., which weren't anywhere among the top 10 in 2009, are now part of the county's MVP taxpayer club.
Also of note: Rreef (now called Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management), which was No. 8 last year, is not on this year's Top 10 list. Neither is Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, which was No. 5 last year.
Numbers include not just property taxes, but also personal property -- essentially, all the business equipment inside companies' buildings.
