Violin Memory moving to Santa Clara

Yesterday's big IPO announcement isn't the only news for Violin Memory.
The flash storage array maker disclosed in its prospectus (which you can read here) that it was leaving its 58,000-square-foot Mountain View home and moving to larger headquarters digs in Santa Clara.
The company's S-1 did not disclose much more, but industry insiders tell me that Violin has subleased about 95,000 square feet from Tellabs Inc. at 4555 Great America Parkway. That's a 300,000-square-foot, six-story building near the high-profile intersection of Great America and Patrick Henry Drive, and is owned by Prudential. Tellabs is remaining in the building in a smaller footprint.
Violin's move about six miles down 101 to Santa Clara shouldn't be a complete surprise: It is located at 685 Clyde Ave., where TMG Partners is slated to construct a large new build-to-suit for Samsung.
In fact, it's the same trajectory taken by Access Closure Inc. The medical device company also moved to get out of Samsung's way, signing a 54,800-square-foot lease last October at 5452 Betsy Ross Drive.
Santa Clara seems to be gaining a number of new tenants these days as the core Peninsula markets tighten. Shutterfly recently signed a lease to move its Tiny Prints division to Santa Clara -- in fact, to 4655 Great America Parkway, which is also part of the Prudential project. (I wrote about that deal here earlier this month.)
On the Violin deal, Scott Kinder of Cresa represented Tellabs. Christian Marent of CBRE represented Violin.
