Dear ALAN RUSSELL,

I hope your summer has gone well, perhaps you joined us for some of our Target Summer Pops programs.  They were  a huge success in their new location!

Before our full season begins we have one more special concert that I wanted to encourage you to attend. Our Symphony Silicon Valley, with Maestro George Daugherty conducting, will be supporting  internationally renowned Mexican tenor Fernando de la Mora in a concert at the newly named SAP Center (formerly HP Pavillion).  This is a combination concert with both Mexican arts songs and the wonderful Mariachi Sol de Mexico.  It is all part of the month-long Viva Fest celebration that takes place each September produced by the Mexican Heritage Corporation.  This time they have expanded to include a more classical  view of Mexican music.  It is a rich heritage and should provide a lively  evening September 7th.

One last fling of summer fun with a classical twist.  More on the concert and how to get tickets can be found in the box below.

A Tribute to the Songbook of Romantic Mexico

September 7, 2013, 8pm

VivaFest Presents: "What A Difference the Music Makes: A Tribute to the Songbook of Romantic Mexico"
Join us for an unabashedly romantic evening of classics from the Mexican songbook and classical repertoire interpreted by one of Mexico's greatest tenors - Fernando de la Mora - and one of America's best known mariachi ensembles - Mariachi Sol de Mexico, joined this evening by Symphony Silicon Valley, Los Lupeños de San Jose and Mariachi Azteca.

VivaFest is proud to present in collaboration with Symphony Silicon Valley an evening of romance, melody and lyricism as we focus the spotlight on a unique and popular aspect of Mexico's musical heritage: the romantic boleros, art song and ballads beloved wherever people fall in love and created by composers such as Maria Grever, Augustin Lara, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Miguel Aceves Mejia, Consuelo Velazquez and Armando Manzanero.

Storytelling in music was revolutionized by Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, with its massive orchestra and vivid, even hallucinatory, colors. Wildly popular from its first performance, it makes the perfect start to our season!

When our scheduled soloist took ill last season, violinist Mayuko Kamio stepped in as a substitute - and departed a sensation. Listeners were enthralled; reviews were ecstatic. She returns to play Tchaikovsky's violin concerto.
ABOUT SYMPHONY SILICON VALLEY

Symphony Silicon Valley is the professional symphony orchestra of San Jose.  Founded in 2002, the nonprofit company has progressed from a daring idea to rapidly become the greater South Bay's premiere orchestra and a notable community success story.  The Symphony's artists, nationally recruited, locally resident, with an average performance tenure in San Jose of over 20 years, are recognized as among the best in the greater Bay Area.  Led by an exciting roster of distinguished guest conductors on the European model, the Symphony is an anchor tenant of San Jose's magnificently restored downtown California Theatre, one of Northern California's most outstanding music halls.  Symphony Silicon Valley is setting an example of an innovative business model in the arts -- market driven and financially conservative, with low overhead and the flexibility to match its programming to its support base.  Besides the Orchestra's core Classics programming, the Symphony's other concerts include Target Summer Pops free music festival, five diverse concerts produced outdoors on the lawn and annually bringing nearly 17,000 people out to enjoy totally free and family-friendly music; and ArtSPARK, the County's new arts education program for all elementary students in grades 3-6. This school year the program will serve 33,000 students.
