Pinger releases GIF Chat: A SnapChat/Vine hybrid

GIF Chat, which is available in the iTunes app store and will come to Android devices later this month, allows users to record video, adjust the video speed, add text and control the number of loops the GIF will play before disappearing.
"GIF Chat is an acknowledgement that there are different media types now," said Greg Woock, CEO and co-founder of San Jose-based Pinger. "In 2013, pictures and video are increasingly how people communicate. Given the fact that free calling and texting won't be appealing in the coming months, we're focusing on making apps that are new and innovative but have messaging at their core."
GIF chat is the first app to launch on the new Pinger Network, the company's unified messaging and monetization platform that allows Pinger users to communicate with each other regardless of the specific Pinger app they use. That means that if you receive a GIF Chat from your friend, you can reply using TextFree or other Pinger apps.
The company also announced two additional messaging apps on the Pinger Network. JukeVox Messenger lets users record voice messages and apply sound effects like police sirens or a voice changer and share with friends. Free Style Messenger lets users customize how their texts appear upon receipt, including font and color options to animated emoticons and live-action GIFs. Both apps are available now in the iTunes app store and will roll out to Google Play Store later this month.
