Wevorce raises $1.7M as it opens more offices

Divorce mediation startup Wevorce has raised about $1.7 million in new funding and announced plans to open five new offices to meet with clients.
The San Mateo-based company led by CEO Michelle Crosby was featured in April in The Pitch, the Business Journal's weekly profile of Silicon Valley startups that are actively raising early stage funds.
It combines a technology platform with a team of legal mediators and others who help couples deal with the legal, emotional and financial aspects of divorce. Couples go through the same set of experts instead of the traditional system in which separate teams work with parties in a divorce.
"We have been inundated with mediators who are intrigued by our take on amicable divorce and want to get involved," Crosby said in a prepared statement. "We are training them as quickly as possible, so that we can bring this model to more areas of the U.S."
Wevorce has raised a total of $2 million in seed funding to date and its backers include Foundation Capital and Sam Altman.
It is opening new client-facing Bay Area offices in San Francisco, Oakland, and Palo Alto, as well as locations outside of California in Seattle and in Boise, Idaho. Its nine offices also include local ones in San Jose and Newark.
