AUGUST 2013 FEATURE ARTICLE MORE KNOW-HOW Success in Today's Market Will Take Old-Fashioned Marketing Techniques and Cutting-Edge Technology By Sig Anderman, Founder and CEO of Ellie Mae June’s Origination Insight Report showed that higher interest rates are beginning to make the prospect of refinancing less attractive to borrowers, while rising home prices and interest rates are prompting more buyers to close. Refinances declined from 54 percent to 51percent while purchase money loans increased from 46 percent to 49 percent from June 2012 to June 2013. This is the highest we’ve seen since we began tracking this data back in August 2011. And there’s good news for borrowers, too. About 47.7 percent of mortgages from June 2013 had an average FICO score under 700, compared to only 28.5 percent from June 2012. As credit requirements ease and home buying picks up pace, lenders will be competing for attention and loyalty from Realtors. This changes the competitive landscape, placing new requirements on lenders.
