Fresh Ideas for Fall Decorating

Fall may not officially start until the Equinox, but it sure feels like it’s started now that we’re in September. Leaves are starting to change color and the evenings are getting cooler.

Step One – Get Inspired

Go play around on Pinterest and search for fall decorating or colors. Check out this slide show from Better Homes & Gardens for some simple and inexpensive but fun Fall decorating ideas. You can start saving beautiful fall leaves now and start pressing them for decorating later.
And you can buy a lot of tiny pumpkins that can be painted and arranged. You can also look for brightly colored gourds rather then painting the pumpkins.
Look around at Nature for inspiration as well. A bowl of pinecones can be a fun accent as well as a bowl of walnuts.

And Houzz has what they call scrapbooks full of ideas. You can decorate in general for Fall and have accents for Halloween and then Thanksgiving.

Step Two – Play With Colors

Seasonal reds, oranges and yellows against a vibrant blue presents a great contrast in tones. And add in deep purples to get the depth of the season.
If you’re not sure how to put together the colors, go to your local paint or hardware store and pick up paint samples and play with them. You can also get fabric swatches from a fabric or craft store.
Don’t hesitate to do some major color changes by using pillows and coverslips in the living areas and changing out table cloths or placemats.
For a unique look, consider using mostly white for a clean look. And on your front porch, for an unusual look, go with monochromatic like all yellow or all gold.
