Learning for Life!
box_top.gif
It’s back to school time for AchieveKids. We are busy investing in quality, focusing on how we can continually deepen and improve the learning experience for our students. With our new Learning for Life goals as our guiding light, we are dedicating this school year to expanding, shaping and refining our curriculum to meet new federal and state educational standards going forward. This is also an investment in the technology and faculty training needed for the 21st century. This new curriculum will allow AchieveKids to assess on an ongoing basis student strengths and weaknesses and target more effective instructional interventions.

AchieveKids contracted with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital for a pilot program to train some of our staff in Pivotal Response Training. This is a best practice application of Applied Behavioral Analysis and will focus on students with autism. We hope to roll this out to all our staff in the future.

We have completed our facilities projects for the “Next Fifty Years!” We are at full student capacity in Palo Alto and expect that we will be full at our San Jose campus in the upcoming year. For that reason we will be ramping up our search to develop a third school in central San Mateo County for future students.

Second Annual Reach for the Stars BBQ

Our second annual Reach for the Stars BBQ on Saturday, June 22, 2013 was a huge success! Thanks to all our sponsors, guests, and volunteers for your support! Our guests were treated to a delicious BBQ buffet catered by Ric Gilbert of Ric’s Righteous Ribs, a world renowned BBQ chef. County Supervisor Joe Simitian was on hand to welcome everyone and encouraged people to tell their friends and neighbors about AchieveKids. Board President Phil Bookman presented our STAR award to Jan Paul Frye / Tisys Construction and Rick Van Mell for their outstanding work on our yearlong remodeling project of both our school campuses.

Watch for information about Reach for Stars 2014 coming soon.
