Focus Bank nabs Gionfriddo after Community Bank of the Bay stint

Focus Business Bank hired Bob Gionfriddo as its chief business banking officer, luring the longtime Silicon Valley banker from Community Bank of the Bay.

"Bob is one of the people in the market with accomplishments in business development and growing a bank," Focus Business Bank CEO Richard Conniff said in an interview. "The strategic piece is that Bob has great connections and a knowledge of local businesses."
San Jose-based Focus wants to expand its lending to businesses in Santa Clara County and has built a brand serving closely-held companies, nonprofits and homeowners associations. The strength of the business climate in Silicon Valley is drawing competitors to the market, with Umpqua Bank among those expanding operations in the area.
If past performance during Silicon Valley business booms is any indication of future results, Gionfriddo's job switch is likely to be part of an increase in ship-jumping in Silicon Valley.

Gionfriddo's 35 years of banking credentials include a turn as a co-founder at Heritage Bank of Commerce, and as executive vice president and president of specialty markets for Bridge Bank. He also worked with Focus Chairman Theodore Biagini launching Plaza Bank, which Comerica acquired in 1990.

"We had a lot of fun and success the last time we did this," Biagini said.
Gionfriddo, who lives in Los Gatos, participates in the Rotary Club and Civic Club of San Jose, and serves on the board of the San Jose/Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce.
He had worked as the Silicon Valley region president for Oakland-based Community Bank of the Bay since 2009 and finished up there in late February. Community Bank didn't return a call seeking comment. Gionfriddo started at Focus on March 7.
