South by Southwest hits the startup accelerator on Monday and Tuesday, when nearly 50 companies compete for best of show in six categories.
There are 11 startups for the Bay Area among the finalists culled from more than 500 applications that festival organizers say they got. Some others are going to the festival as "alternate" presenters.
That is a low percentage of startups from the San Francisco and Silicon Valley areas, compared to the huge portion of U.S. startups from the region that get funded each year.
But new companies here get a shot at pitching in front of Valley angels and VCs nearly every day of the week. More than 250 pitched just last week at the Launch Festival in San Francisco.
For folks from other parts of the country, however, this if the big show.
Here is a list of who made the “Nerd Bird” flights from the Bay Area’s three airports to Austin-Bergstron International Airport.
