Silicon valley Symphony

Dear ALAN,

A week ago the Symphony season closed with two performances of Strauss's Ein Heldenleben that received roars of applause. 'Vital and dramatic' said the Mercury News: Read the review here. But we're not done yet!  We have more music and exciting performances coming up.

Reminder: If you are a season subscriber and haven't renewed yet for 2013-14, it's not too late! Call the Symphony Box Office today to secure your seats, before we begin seating for next year.  New subscriptions and single tickets go on sale on August 26th at 10:00 am.

And plan to join the Symphony on Tower Lawn at San Jose State this summer for Target Summer Pops: five free performances, featuring light classics, family favorites, an evening of Sinatra by Las Vegas headliner Steve Lippia, world-renowned swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and a celebration of the music of Star Wars. All for free, all for you, our fans. Click here for more information!

But first, we have a special concert for you. This Friday evening in Palo Alto, Symphony Silicon Valley Chorale presents their season closer, The Best of the British Romantics. Read on below for more information.

Please Note: The Chorale will perform in the Palo Alto First United Methodist Church, 624 Hamilton Ave, Palo Alto, CA.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Led by Artistic Director Elena Sharkova, Symphony Silicon Valley Chorale concludes its 26th season with an evening of British choral-orchestral and organ masterpieces by British romantic composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. The Chorale will perform, together with members of Symphony Silicon Valley, at the acoustically brilliant Palo Alto First United Methodist Church.

Choral works include In Windsor Forest and Serenade to Music by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Wedding Anthem by Benjamin Britten, plus gems by Edward Elgar and Gustav Holst.  A feature will be Will Todd's A Call to Wisdom, commissioned for HRM Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee and premiered at St. Paul's Cathedral on June 4th, 2012.

A particular treat will be The Crown Imperial Coronation March by Sir William Walton, performed by Cyril Deaconoff on the magnificent Merrit Speidel Memorial Organ.

The First United Methodist Church actually has two pipe organs, and over the years has hosted recitals by world-renowned organists, among them E. Power Biggs, Pierre Cchereau, Maurice and Marie-Madeleine DuruflĂ© and many more.  Organist Virgil Fox is remembered for insisting that a very large mirror be mounted above the original, unmovable console for his recitals, in order to show off his technique to the audience.

The concert's title is especially apt because much of its music is known from countless weddings.  Come this Friday and enjoy the romance!

About Symphony Silicon Valley

Symphony Silicon Valley is the professional symphony orchestra of San Jose.  Founded in 2002, the nonprofit company has progressed from a daring idea to rapidly become the greater South Bay's premiere orchestra and a notable community success story.  The Symphony's artists, nationally recruited, locally resident, with an average performance tenure in San Jose of over 20 years, are recognized as among the best in the greater Bay Area.  Led by an exciting roster of distinguished guest conductors on the European model, the Symphony is an anchor tenant of San Jose's magnificently restored downtown California Theatre, one of Northern California's most outstanding music halls.  Symphony Silicon Valley is setting an example of an innovative business model in the arts -- market driven and financially conservative, with low overhead and the flexibility to match its programming to its support base.  Besides the Orchestra's core Classics programming, the Symphony's other concerts include Target Summer Pops free music festival, five diverse concerts produced outdoors on the lawn and annually bringing nearly 17,000 people out to enjoy totally free and family-friendly music; and ArtSPARK, the County's new arts education program for all elementary students in grades 3-6. This school year the program will serve 33,000 students..
