Ray Kurzweil, Padmasree Warrior, Peter Diamandis and Steve Blank joined the ranks of Silicon Valley Visionary Award winners Wednesday night at a gala event in Los Altos Hills.
They join a Who's Who of tech and venture investment that have been honored since 1998, including Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Marc Andreessen, John Doerr and Jerry Yang.

Kurzweil, 65, has been a prolific inventor of such things as the first music synthesizer capable of recreating grand pianos and other instruments, the first print-to-speech reader for the blind and the first CCD flatbed scanner. He has written best-selling books, including "The Age of Spirituality Machines" and "The Singularity is Near." Today he is director of engineering at Google.

Warrior came to Cisco after a long career at Motorola, where she was also CTO. She is regularly ranked among the most powerful women in business and technology.

Diamandis, 52, is the founder and head of the X Prize Foundation, which encourages technological innovation to benefit mankind, and co-founder of Singularity University, which also aims to use technology to tackle big challenges of humanity.
