Mountain View's community access station's board
of directors elected six new board members. Val Carpenter, George Cohn, Susan
Davis, Young Han, Heather Hurford and Cathy Martin join Chairman David Joud,
Artie Green and Cathy Smithwick on the board of KMVT 15 Silicon Valley Community
Media.
For more than 30 years, Mountain View's KMVT 15 Silicon Valley
Community Media has provided training in video production, media literacy and a
local news outlet for hundreds of thousands of Bay Area residents. As an
independent nonprofit organization, it provides community television to the
residents of Cupertino, Foster City, Mountain View, Los Altos, and Sunnyvale.
KMVT's board is working to raise $500,000 through its "Go Digital!"
capital campaign to help fund studio improvement and new equipment that will
increase productivity. The new board members will work to promote community
television through fundraising, community outreach, partnership expansions and
financing, said Shelley Wolfe, KMVT's executive director, in a press
release.
Carpenter is in her second term on the Los Altos city council
and has served as the mayor of Los Altos twice. A senior marketing executive in
Silicon Valley prior to her election, Carpenter is also an instructor at Mission
College.
Cohn is the executive producer at Creation Ground Media, a
corporate video production company based in Mountain View. He began his career
in Silicon Valley, managing software development teams at UB Networks and
Divicom Inc.
Davis is the founding champion of the Co-Creation Community
and a Conversation Radio Host on WeEarth Global Radio Network. In 2012, she was
inducted into the National Environmental Hall of Fame, and has received national
honors for her work in the sustainable design/green building
industry.
Han is the founder and CEO of GoVoluntr, an online organization
that that connects volunteers and nonprofits to volunteer opportunities from
businesses. He has a background in sales and management with Starbucks and
Apple.
Hurford is an event producer with Google, with 15 years of
production experience, primarily with Link TV, a non-commercial public interest
television channel that broadcasts nationwide.
Martin supervises
finances for Humane Society Silicon Valley. She raised $16 million in nonprofit
California bonds for a new facility.
