Twitter slapdown: Square's ex-COO, FourSquare's CEO feud

Foursquare CEO Dennis Crowley over the weekend shot back at tweets from former Googler Hunter Walk and former Square COO Keith Rabois implying that there aren't many people using his company's social location app.

A war of tweets erupted over the weekend between Keith Rabois — the former chief operating officer at mobile payment startup Square — and Dennis Crowley — the CEO of social location app company Foursquare.
Before the dust had settled, plenty of others jumped into the Twitter fight between Rabois and Crowley.
It began with a tweet from former Googler Hunter Walk who said he was surprised by a report that said 40,000 developers were using Foursquare for their offerings.
Rabois then set Twitter ablaze by tweeting that the number of developers using Foursquare in the programs made up the total of its users.
That brought Crowley into the comment stream, tweeting, "Keep hating… and while you're doing so Foursquare will keep becoming the location layer for the Internet."
To which, Rabois responded, "Great use of jargon. Maybe Hail Mary Bebo-style acquisition will bail you out."
Judging from the avalanche of tweets that ensued, either people weren't taking advantage of the beautiful weekend weather in the Bay Area or maybe they were partaking of too much St. Patrick's Day spirits.
Either way, you might expect Rabois — who just joined Khosla Ventures after exiting Square under a cloud — and Crowley — who is trying to build a business — might find better things to do than get into a public snark fight.
But apparently they don't agree.
