Alicia Hamar
Stanford University took the top spot on Forbes’ annual top college list, released today.
The school popped up from the No. 3 position on last year’s list.
Right behind it - another California school, Claremont’s Pomona College. This is the first time two Californian schools took the top two spots, showing a shift from East to West Coast.
Forbes ranks American universities in partnership with nonprofit research organization Center for College Affordability and Productivity. Schools are compared on 12 factors relating to student satisfaction, post graduation success, graduation rate, student debt and nationally competitive awards.
Other California schools to hit the list:
  • No. 18: California Institute of Technology, in Pasadena
  • No. 22: University of California, Berkeley
  • No. 72: Santa Clara University
  • No. 159: University of California, Santa Cruz
  • No. 272: San Jose State University
Besides the two top California schools, the other universities to make the top five are Princeton University (No. 3), Yale University (No. 4) and Columbia University (No. 5).
