THIS WEEKEND'S CONCERTS

Big Bad
Voodoo Daddy

Friday August 2
7:00pm

Grab the chance to see this electrifying contemporary Swing Revival band live and free! From '40s swing to Cab Calloway, boogie woogie to New Orleans blues, its rhythm section is beat only by its horns - or vice versa. "Go Daddy-O," "Mr. Pinstripe Suit," "The Jumpin' Jive" - it doesn't get better than this.

2013 marks the 20th anniversary of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's remarkable arrival upon the music scene. In its early years, having secured their legendary residency at the Derby nightclub in Los Angeles, they reminded a world in the middle of the grunge era that it was still cool to swing, big band style. Today the high energy nine piece ensemble continues the party, taking things to the next level with the release of Rattle Them Bones. Following up their much-lauded 2009 release, How Big Can You Get?: The Music of Cab Calloway, Rattle Them Bones expands the band's horizons, while continuing to urge their millions of fans worldwide to move and shake to their inimitable groove.

This concert promises to be a night to remember!

Simply Sinatra

Saturday August 3
7:00pm
When Frank Sinatra's longtime bandleader Vincent Falcone first heard vocalist Steve Lippia, he's said to have  exclaimed "That's the old man!" Since then, Lippia has become one of the most in-demand interpreters of Sinatra's timeless music. He performs to sold-out audiences with major symphonies across the nation and internationally, and headlines for extended engagements in New York, Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

Join us for a romantic concert of Sinatra's greatest songs, performed by a master.  Backed by the Symphony Silicon Valley musicians, Steve Lippia will bring us the best of the Big Band era and American classic pop standards and leave us begging for more!

About Symphony Silicon Valley

Symphony Silicon Valley is the professional symphony orchestra of San Jose.  Founded in 2002, the nonprofit company has progressed from a daring idea to rapidly become the greater South Bay's premiere orchestra and a notable community success story.  The Symphony's artists, nationally recruited, locally resident, with an average performance tenure in San Jose of over 20 years, are recognized as among the best in the greater Bay Area.  Led by an exciting roster of distinguished guest conductors on the European model, the Symphony is an anchor tenant of San Jose's magnificently restored downtown California Theatre, one of Northern California's most outstanding music halls.  Symphony Silicon Valley is setting an example of an innovative business model in the arts -- market driven and financially conservative, with low overhead and the flexibility to match its programming to its support base.  Besides the Orchestra's core Classics programming, the Symphony's other concerts include Target Summer Pops free music festival, five diverse concerts produced outdoors on the lawn and annually bringing nearly 17,000 people out to enjoy totally free and family-friendly music; and ArtSPARK, the County's new arts education program for all elementary students in grades 3-6. This school year the program will serve 33,000 students.
