Greg's rates and wine update woo whoo it must be Friday

Good afternoon,

It’s hot outside. Yesterday it was hot inside, too.

 

It made me thirsty, so I went and bought some summer thirst quenching wines and barring something unforeseen I’ll be pouring them next Friday afternoon.

 

For those of you that haven’t been to one of my tastings yet, because I haven’t done one in a while, I usually break out 6 bottles with a common theme and we drink them.

 

For those who have been to my tastings before know I am partial to Txakoli, a typically frizzante wine from the Txakolina region of Spain (Bizkaiko Txakolina or Getariako Txakolina, specifically).

I have two rose Txakolis. Some of you may remember the style and that they usually disappear in record time.

Also got a gruner veltliner.

I tried to find a vin de bugey, but failed. Still, I found some other interesting wines.

 

Markets

Bonds are up a little this week. The 10 year treasury closed at 2.56% yield, up from 2.49%.

The MBS is just slightly off last week’s price.

The Dow is at 15,558, up a hair from  15,543.

The dollar is a $1.315/Euro.

 

Some rates are up, some down, most the same.

 

Wine

2011 Butternut Chardonnay - $14.99 @ K&L Wines – I am told this passes for Rombauer Chard, but you will note it is half the price.

 

2003 Aldo Conterno Quartetto Langhe – $18.99 - it’s a Piedmont blend. It’s supposed to be amazing. I have a whole bunch of Aldo Conterno wine, but I paid a lot more for mine. What I have had from them has been memorable. As in, “Greg, can I keep the (empty) bottle?”
