Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer set off a tirade this past week when she ordered her telecommuting employees to bring their work days back into the office.
We’ve heard from readers on both sides of the decision, as well as several tech companies who say they offer – and will continue to offer – the flexible work options to their employees, and anything less is silly.
Now airline mogul Richard Branson is weighing in. The founder of Virgin airlines wrote a post today about the move. He titled it, “Give people the freedom of where to work.”
In it, he calls Mayer’s move “a backwards step in an age when remote working is easier and more effective.”
He also points out that he has never worked in an office and never plans to do so.
“Working life isn’t 9-5 anymore,” he adds. “The world is connected. Companies that do not embrace this are missing a trick.” (Full post is here.)
Of course, not everyone agrees with this sentiment, and as Business Insider points out, there were a few problems with how Yahoo was managing its work-from-home employees.
