Bad news, politics junkies. California is not your job market.
Political science is the least desirable college major for employers in the golden state, according to a report released Thursday.
An analysis of 2.5 million California job postings by San Francisco-based employment site Bright.com found that science and engineering majors in several disciplines still reign when it comes to the most valuable college degrees in the golden state. Liberal arts? Not so much.
In addition to the findings on college majors, Bright also isolated several other characteristics of the California job market:
- The best California metro areas for job seekers are (in order): San Jose, Fresno, L.A. and Stockton.
- People in California on average make 13 percent more than those with equivalent titles nationwide.
- When it comes to tech, Bright's report notes, "Some of the state’s biggest employers give more weight to certain past employers." For example, Google prefers that employees worked at eBay over Intel or Oracle, and Apple likes applicants who worked at Cisco over Oracle or Intel.
