Many years ago I read a book called “Never Eat Alone” by Keith Ferrazzi. I have since read the book a few times and each time, I learn something new. I really got the message and put the information to good use. There is nothing like one on one interactions, lunch is perfect.

Never Eat Alone

I meet on a regular basis with my referral partners and my networking partners. I am normally booked a couple of weeks out. Most everyone I am having lunch with already knows that I am a referral machine and we discuss ways for me to refer more business to them. I really don’t spend much time on referrals for me, but one topic that is always discuss, is future three way lunches.


One of the lessons in the book is, three way lunches with others that I can refer to and get referral business from. I read the book a few times before I understood this practice. Here is how it happened.


There is an insurance agent that I sent 56 referrals to in 2012. She was an absolute raving fan and always talked about wanting to refer more, but just felt she should be giving more. After reading the book for the 4th or 5th time, I read this paragraph, like I had never seen it before. As a result, I called her and said, I have the answer for her.


Do you know anyone that is in a business that would be in a business that could send me business on a regular basis? She immediately said, yes I do. For the last two years, we meet about once a month for lunch, with a third person. All of the business that comes though these individuals may be future insurance business. We all win.
