The Do's and Don'ts of credit repair

The Do’s and Don’ts of Credit Repair

One of the most effective ways to dispute negative information on your report is to send a dispute letter. Because bureaus receive tons of letters on a regular basis, only letters written within the correct parameters are looked into. An incorrect format in your letter might pass the wrong signal to your bureau and your letter might be considered un-important.
What we want is to ensure your dispute gets through and these tips would ensure just that.

Be original – There are thousands of templates available for dispute letters, but be reminded that there are also thousands of people using those templates as well. Imagine what it would be like when the only difference between a group of letters is the Mailing address.
What you need to do is ‘be original’; write in your own words, just in the same way you speak. Feel free to state in your letter that a negative report “is not mine” if it isn’t.
Use the law – Showing your understanding of Fair Credit Reporting Act would also be a good move. Credit bureaus have a maximum of 30 days to investigate a negative account, after which it is to be deleted from your report if no proof is found for its existence.
Mail securely – One way to ensure our letters get to the desired destination is to send them via registered mail. Not only would registered mail guarantee the delivery of your letter, but you can also keep track of your letters.
Don’t dispute multiple items- Letter writing may not be fun for some individuals hence they tend to merge multiple disputes in one letter. This would label your letter as frivolous. The rule remains; write a single letter for each issue that needs to be resolved.
