Google likes Pinterest

Google likes Pinterest, I opine.  You should too!

There is great authority behind social media, as most of us know, when we attempt day in and day out for those search inquiries to find us. What is Google saying about Pinterest?
Google Likes Pinterest

After a recent review of my Pinterest Profile and Boards, I’ve noticed the various page rankings that Google has assigned to my Profile and Boards. I knew that my Boards had been coming up in Google search results which, I’ve been happy about yet, I never took a close look to see if Pinterest had assigned page rankings, until today.

My Pinterest Profile ranks higher than my top Boards and these top Boards show as being one rank lower while, some Boards have no ranking at all other than a “?” mark. None of my Boards have the highest ranking of my Profile so, I”m unclear as to how my Profile page ranking has been established.

After careful analysis, it appears that my well established, older boards, with keywords, with more followers, links to my sites and hash tags have a higher page rank value; for example my “Coral Springs Real Estate” Board. However, when I take a look at one of my newer Boards with no keywords, no hash tags, no links and a similar decent  following, it has the same page ranking as my well established, with keywords, with more followers, links to my sites and hash tags Boards; it is just a fun quirky Board called “Under foot”.  I’ll then look at some of my other Boards that are well established, older Boards with more followers yet, no key words, no links to my sites or hash tags for which I’m normally using,  and they don’t have a page ranking at all, just that question mark: (?).

Then there are the subject matters that a lot of Pinners are interested in which, will help you in increasing your page rankings; for example, my “Our Unconditional Friends - Dogs” Board is all about dogs and there are dog lovers everywhere so, that Board is ranking my Dog Board the same as my other ranking Boards. I imagine if you’re a Cat lover that this would also have a strong following thus higher ranking if your other Boards ranked well.

I’m by no means amongst the likes of those who have huge followings in the 100’s of thousands with huge followings who clearly rank higher, as believe me, I’m happy to have a ranking at all with my less than 800 followers at the time of me writing this. The highest ranking that I’ve run across is for a major Brand such as Whole Foods Market whose profile is ranked 6, Martha Stewart  is ranked 5, HGTV is ranked 5  and the BIG Z is ranked 5 and the BIG T is ranked 4 , Core NY is ranked 3 and Pinterest Co-Founder Evan Sharp is ranked 7. My point in showing you the rankings of these Big Brands is that we as the little girl/guy can get close to these Brands, as we’re not far off, if you commit to making Pinterest part of your social marketing strategy.

At this point, my findings are not crystal clear to what Google “likes” or finds relevant with my Pinterest Boards, as there appears to be exceptions yet, I could make some basic assumptions from my findings.

I would conclude and opine, that my Pinterest Profile and Boards are being ranked by Google because I’m using keywords that are relevant for my Real Estate business, I use descriptions with hash tags in my Board descriptions, have a good following while continuing to grow my following and steadily employ pinning in my business while pinning on what interests a typical Real Estate customer. And lastly, I comment on the pins trying to encourage engagement amongst the Pinners after all, social media is about being social.

Will it happen overnight for you? No it won’t, as I’ve been on Pinterest for about 1 year and 3 months. In fact, would you believe that I first met Debbie Gartner, The Flooring Girl, on Pinterest before, I ever knew her on Active Rain. Debbie is great and does well with Pinterest too, as you can check her Boards too.  There are many other active Real Estate Agents too that I know on Pinterest who do a great job and there are too many to mention here, they know who they are :)

So if you believe in the authority behind social media and want a search inquiry to fnd you, then I’d recommend that you add Pinterest to your social media strategies to grow your business.  It’s never too late to start. Happy Pinning!

Terri, I hear you. I too love Pinterest. If you don't like Facebook as I don't either, you should try Google+ - I love Google+ too.

Social media is becoming pretty complex given the analysis you shared... but you are correct-- Pinterest is yet another way we can get noticed in our business.

I have yet to venture out into the world of Pinterest . With so many different forms of social media, it is so easy to get lost and not always perform to the best of our abilities or search out other forms such as Pinterest

Managing media streams, weeding and feeding them. Not one or two to corral anymore and Pinterest is one of many that need harnessing, direction, prepping on a daily basis to show up all over the front page search engine index.

Lynn your right! Between Pinterest and Google + - It's where I'm spending the bulk of my social media time.
You need to leave your Footprint!

I've only just started using Pinterest and really enjoy it. I hadn't thought of it as needing key words....thanks for that input!

Lynn thanks for the information. I "started" to use Pinterest and faded a bit. I do know it has started to become much more popular (I believe within the top 3) so it is high time to jump on the wagon. You have provided a wealth of information to go forward.

Say WhaaaaT??? I am not embarrassed to say that I really haven't a clue about what you wrote although at the same time I'm happy to know that my referral business and junk mail farm are well enough established to keep me busy for a few more years until I retire so that I won't need to worry about figuring it out.

I need to spend more time on Pinterest. I'm guilty of spending too little time there, even though it is so much fun! I am careful to link my photos from my websites so that Google will give my websites higher page rankings. Many agents don't understand that if they just put photos up by browsing their computer hard drive, then there are no links back to their website for Google to follow. PINTEREST TIP: Browse to your website, not your hard drive when putting up a photo on your Pinterest Board!

I love technology and have had a Pinterest account for some time, but like my twitter account I do not groom it as often as I can. Thanks for giving me and all of us the reason to go back and update and add. Have a great weekend.

All of the above strategy seems to be the plan of many. You have a good grip on your impact and have motivated me to be more targeted and productive in what I will do from here. Thanks for this post ;)

Roland, yes, you're right as there are so many different avenues to venture into and you just have to pick what suits you best, I believe.
Christine, happy to offer a glimpse into Pinterest
Sally and David, wouldn't it be nice if we were provided some quick results in just one thing that we do!
Andrew so much to manage, you're right and not an easy task for beneficial results
Paul, I'm with you Google+ and Pinterest. I've fallen behind here on AR and I have to idea why as AR has always been good and enjoyable for me so I'm been trying to be more consistent with AR too
Sharon, glad to hear you're enjoying Pinterest and yes, optimize it too
Mark, I have not had any known direct sales from it yet where a Customer said they found me on Pinterest and wanted me to sell their home however, it is being shown that Pinterest brings visitors to my Real Estate sites which very well could have been the customer who listed their home with me or had me help them buy a home.
