Oscar Wilde once wrote, “Give a man a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” The principle that truth and anonymity often go hand-in-hand guides Glassdoor.com, a site that invites people to give honest ratings of the companies they’ve worked for.
This week, we examined the Glassdoor data for Silicon Valley’s 100 biggest publicly traded companies to determine the region’s 7 happiest companies. Later, we’ll post the list of Silicon Valley’s 7 most miserable companies.

What perk could you do without? What new perk has your company started to offer? Take our survey here and let us know.

These articles are part of the Business Journal’s ongoing series about the state of employee perks and company culture in Silicon Valley. Last week, we examined the 10 perks Silicon Valley gets that the rest of America doesn’t, and the 9 perks America gets that Silicon Valley doesn’t.
Today’s list of happy companies shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. According to employee ratings on Glassdoor, the Valley’s 7 happiest companies are:
1. Facebook
2. Google
3. LinkedIn
4. Apple
5. Informatica
6. Shutterfly
7. NetApp
Companies 1 through 4 are household names. Informatica, not as much. That lack of brand recognition doesn’t stop Informatica’s 2,800+ employees from giving the data management software company high marks.
In Informatica’s 131 anonymous Glassdoor reviews, employees consistently paint a picture of competent executive leadership, pride in their products, a good work-life balance and a healthy team environment.
Industry leading employee perks are the norm at Facebook, Google and LinkedIn, and the phrase “free food” appears prominently in hundreds of Glassdoor reviews of these companies. Another reoccurring phrase is “smart people.”
