Dear Alan:
As a part of Earth Day celebration, I would like to invite you
to the Charles Street Gardens' Spring Plant Sale, this Saturday
April 20th, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. All proceeds benefit
the non-profit community garden.
I will be speaking at 2:00 PM about the health benefits of some of the
herbs/vegetables/and plants growing at the garden. For more information
about this event please click here. Hope to see you there!
I have also been receiving inquires about detoxification, and doing
a"spring cleanse". First, detoxification happens naturally in our
body every day, whether or not we are actively doing a "detox
plan". However, there are lifestyle practices that we can do to
support our bodies natural detoxification systems, such as:
- Eating a
whole foods diet with 6-8 servings of vegetables daily
- Eating
organic foods as much as possible, and especially avoiding the dirty dozen:
foods with the highest amount of pesticides
- Drinking
adequate water
- Exercising
to sweat out the toxins
- Eating
optimal fiber (20-30 grams/day) to support digestive and bowel
function.
- Avoiding
harmful chemicals. Click here for list of
what cleaning products to use and avoid.
Why then do a
"Detox Plan"?
The same way we do a deeper "spring cleaning" of our home, a
10-28 day detox plan gives our body the boost to optimize function of the
organs involved in detoxification (i.e. liver, skin, bowels, kidney, lungs,
lymphatic system). For more information about Dr. Kian's Detox Plan and
Detox Special, please click here.
Important note: When starting a detox plan, it is recommended to first
consult your doctor. A naturopathic doctor is especially skilled in
creating a detox plan unique to you. For further questions, please feel
free to contact Dr. Kian.
Did you know?
Our liver is the largest organ of detoxification. To
help the liver do its job, limit processed foods and alcohol. Instead eat
these liver friendly foods:
- Artichokes
- Mustard
Greens
- Celery
- Cruciferous
Vegetables (Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts)
- Beets
& Beet Greens
- Add
Turmeric to your sauteed greens & other foods, which has strong
anti-inflammatory properties.
