Quick, Easy and Inexpensive Decorating Tips

Now that you’ve finished your Spring Cleaning, are you itching to fix up some of the areas of your home? But you want to keep it inexpensive since taxes are due (we hope you get a refund!). We’ve talked in prior posts about second hand goods as one source for inexpensive decorating as well as painting a room to revitalize it.
In today’s post, we’ll look at some additional quick, easy and inexpensive decorating ideas for your home.

Custom Plates, Cups, and Saucers

While you could go to a paint-it-yourself shop and create some gorgeous platters, that can add up. Instead, you could find plain white china, and draw on it with a ceramic paint pen.

Easy Embellished Towels

If you want pretty guest towels in your bathroom that are custom with your name or coordinating colors, you can have them. First, go to a fabric store and look for something called a fat quarter in the color and pattern of your choice. Some craft stores also have the plain towels, otherwise, look in thrift stores, or find some on sale. You don’t need a sewing machine. Just pick up some special iron on fusible tape, sometimes called iron on hem tape. If you have some towels that you think are great and just want to add some pizzaz, you can also use the iron on tape with some pretty ribbon or lace.

Change a Light Fixture

This may not be as inexpensive as some of the other ideas, but it’s a quick and easy way to change the look of the room. If the room had been dark, and you put in a brighter light, the room will take on a different feel.

Add a Rug or Mat

You can change up the whole feel of a bathroom by adding a bathmat, or the family room with an area rug, or the hallway with an entry rug. The colors can match or complement the existing scheme. For bathrooms, make sure you get a mat that is easy to wash. For rugs on hard surfaces, get some non-skid backing if they don’t already have it.

Rearrange Everything

Probably the cheapest method of changing up a room is just rearrange everything. Look into how the room is used, and if it’s currently got the best layout. Move items from one room into another. If everything was spread out, look into clustering. Create a focal point, and then build out around it. Seeing all of your stuff in new ways can be fun.

Change Out the Window Treatments

There are so many new-sew options now that you can have roman shades, or cafe curtains in an afternoon that are exactly what you want. Stores like IKEA or Target also have inexpensive pre-made options that are fast to hang.
