How to compose a blog that gets read by these Wa. Active Rain "ers"

You take the time to write an interesting blog, Why not take the time to make it appealing to your Readers?
This not a rant but a series of simple suggestions on what you can do to make you blog posts attractive to draw in your prospective readers. I say prospective, because if you do not grab them right away they will click past you in the blink of an eye.

Some of My Humble Suggestions!

Make the Title Interesting Friendly-First thing you have to do is get the reader to even open your blog. Keywords are important but so are eye catching Titles. Write your Title and then after you have written your blog go back and experiment. The first Title may not be your best one. I have re-worked this Title 3 times so far.

Font Size- too often I see blogs that either have teeny tiny (default) size fonts or the other day I saw a blog that was all 18 pt type. Yow! That was hard on the eyes. Remember some of us have to use reading glasses and appreciate a readable size font but don't get carried away. Larger is not necessarily better!

Sub-Headings and Paragraphs are a must-It is difficult to read a long paragraph with no breaks. When you are talking you have to take a breath every once in a while, why not give us a paragraph break every once in a while.
Ever try to read a blog which is over 300 words and not a sub-heading in sight. Use them for those important keywords and guide you reader through your topic in readable chunks.

Two men
Please include pics or clip art-Visual aids are always important to draw the eye and add interest to your blog. Remember the old saying "A picture is worth a thousand words".
If you don't have any photos, then try Clip Art. However, make sure you own the rights. Note: I used this clipart image for the TECHO Contest.

Overuse of bold, italic etc.- There is such a thing as TOO MUCH emphasis! If you bold every few words in a sentence/paragraph the reader gets confused as to what is important and what is not. Add in some Italics and you really confuse!! OK that's enough for this suggestion...... !!!!!

Add a bit of Color- It is OK to add color to your blog. Some say that if it is a serious blog you should only use black fonts. I say if a bit of color will draw the readers eye then go for it. However, if every word is one color or another then it becomes distracting and harder to read.

Add Relevant Links-Not only are links good for SEO they help the reader gain more in-depth information about your topic. If you do a series, then how about links to the other blogs in the series.

Use Spell Check-We are in hurry to get those thoughts on apepr and don notice we have mised a few letters and misspeled words. it is easy, just hit the "spell check" buttom at the top of the page next to "ABC" and you wil find whish werds need fixng.

Use The best Keywords for SEO- They are especially important for your "public" blogs. I always check Google Keywordtool before I write any blog. Check to see if your keywords have "Low" competition and have a large search number per month. This gives you a better chance of getting up there on the seach engines.
Hope this has Helped. Content is King but if your audience does not take the time to read your blogs you might as well "Go Fishing"!
Final Note: If you write a good enough blog you may get featured. Yeah!. Thanks Active Rain.
