In my view the better question might be why would you go out to look for homes without complete understanding of choice, monthly costs, total cash needed and the process. This is the biggest purchase any of us do so take time, do your reasearch involve those opinons whom you trust. Then you can enter in the home search prepared with eyes wide open.
I say own your numbers before you look for a home it is safest way.
