Location: Malibu, Calif.
Price: $57,500,000
The Skinny: In 1989, the same year he won the prestigious Pritzker Prize, future starchitect Frank Gehry built this sprawling waterfront home for insurance executive Burton Borman on a rare 160-foot lot on Malibu's coveted Broad Beach. Far from the swooping metallic forms of his later designs, the sturdy structure looks more like a skylit concrete maze than a comfortable family home, but that hasn't kept Borman's estate from asking a whopping $57.5M for the property, a year after his death. With six bedrooms and ten bathrooms spread over 11,500 square feet, the Borman Residence is one of Malibu's largest beach houses, and even sports a beachfront tennis court, which, sadly, is also surrounded by barren concrete walls. The property is well suited to some Jackie Treehorn-style garden parties, with four garage bays and parking for a dozen vehicles. Paging Larry Ellison.

It's a Gehry, on a big lot, on Malibu Beach. I see endless potential. Not a tennis player and could see the court being transformed into an amazing party/entertainment space after removing some or all of the walls. I could see myself being happy there.
