Top Ten Questions Asked in an Investor Presentation
Whether you are presenting to sophisticated investors or venture capital
firms, a savvy investor will catch you off guard if you are not fully prepped to
crush every question thrown your way in a timely fashion. Preparation is an
absolute must when headed into a presentation. Coordinating hundreds of investor
meetings each year if not thousands, I have seen many different presentations
and investors. In most if not all the presentations I have seen ten common
questions that investors want you to be able to answer. While there are
certainly more questions and twists to these, it’s certainly a solid foundation
to build off:
* What is your valuation and how did you come up with that number as it seems too high?
* What kind of market traction does your company have?
* Is your business model scalable?
* What is your break-even point? How many customers will it take for you to reach that number?
* What is your competitive advantage?
* What is your exit strategy?
* Are there companies in your industry with comparable exits?
* How realistic are your projections and how did you come up with those figures?
* Do you have intellectual property and what is your long-term protection strategy?
* Why should I invest in you?
I have seen many of these questions derail a company within their presentation due to their careless approach to not taking the meeting seriously. Do yourself a favor and train properly prior to presenting to any investor. Answer these questions in full along with many other questions prior to the meeting then study them inside and out. Take initiative and be proactive about each and every presentation you make to investors. Should you need further assistance we are open to go into further details on this subject and strategies on answering them in a professional manner that will dramatically increase your chances in reaching a term sheet.
