How to prepare before a hurricane

Hurricane
Tips 2013- You’re Prepared!  A Hurricane’s Coming..Now What Do You Do?  12 Tips.
It’s
one thing to be prepared in the event of a hurricane, with all of your water
stored in the Hurricane Evacuation Routegarage, flashlights, batteries, first aid kit and
non-perishable food in a special box. But you turn on the news and a hurricane
is on the way.
A
Hurricane is Coming...Now What Do You Do?
12
Last Minute Tips!

1. Start monitoring
your local news

station, television and radio.
2.
Make
sure all of your vehicles’ fuel
tanks
are FULL!
3.
Now’s
the time to make sure you have any
prescription
medicines
and
over the counter medicine or personal items you might need.  And while you’re
out, stop at the
ATM
for cash.
4.
Do your laundry!

Don’t laugh but you’ll wish you had if you’re without power for several weeks.
5.
If you haven’t already (but I’m sure you have!) make sure your
propane
grill has fuel.
In
one of the hurricanes I was in, our grill made us coffee in the morning, as well
as our meals.
6.
Charge your power tools

for repairs after the hurricane.
7.
Now’s
the time to
gather
your “To Go” Box ,

your papers, and the others items on the list you made in your preparations for
a hurricane.
8.Bring
in anything that isn’t tied down

and could become a missile.  This will include your hanging plants, tools,
furniture and pool cleaning equipment.
First Aid Kit9.
Make a final trip to your market for some

fresh produce and ice.

If there’s a major hurricane, your canned foods are nice but grocery stores
will run short of those 2 items.  Don’t forget
food
for your pets!
10.
Gather plastic bags, boxes or anything waterproof for protecting your important
papers, electronics, toilet paper, and clothing in the home.  You could lose all
or part of your roof or some windows.
11.
Fill your bathtub with water.
12. Make
sure you have the contact information of your neighbors, and
check
on your elderly neighbors.

First
Responders and FEMA can take some time to arrive so it is YOUR responsibility to
have enough supplies for you and your family for at least 3 days.

The
thing to remember if a hurricane is on it’s way is to not let common sense go
out the door.
