Jessica Bennett, executive editor of Tumblr before the company killed off its editorial staff, has landed a nice new gig: she’s running editorial for Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In community.
Sandberg announced the move to her Facebook followers today, saying: “So excited to welcome Jessica Bennett to the Lean In team! Jessica is joining us to run Editorial - helping us connect women all over the world with their passion for leaning in! Special thanks to Nell Scovell and Rachel Sklar for introducing us to Jessica!”
Lean In is the online forum Sandberg started as part of a movement to encourage women to excel in the workplace, based off her book, “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead.” It includes original content from high-profile women, as well as online educational lectures on subjects like negotiating pay or influencing others.
Social blogging site Tumblr said on April 10 it was laying off its editorial staff, which was hired in May 2012 to report on its community.
Bennett was previously a senior writer for Newsweek and also writes for the New York Times and The Atlantic. She is also a contributing editor at the Daily Beast.
