The Bay Area is home to three of the highest-earning cities nationwide, with San Ramon, Pleasanton and Palo Alto all near the top of the list.
That's according to a new report by financial literacy site NerdWallet, which based the analysis on the proportion of residents in a city making more than $100,000 a year.
San Ramon ranks No. 1 out of 500 cities included in the report, with 63.5 percent of residents making more than $100,000 annually. About 25 percent of households in San Ramon bring in $200,000 or more each year.
There are only 16 cities nationwide where more than 50 percent of households earn over $100,000. NerdWallet reports that the Bay Area has more cities on that list than any other metro area.
Pleasanton came in at No. 3 on the list, with 59.8 percent of households making more than $100,000.
Palo Alto was No. 6 on the NerdWallet list, where 57.8 percent of residents earn more than $100,000 annually. However, the Silicon Valley city also had the highest proportion (28.2 percent) of those making more than $200,000 annually.
