The Skinny: In Jonathan Grayer's tenure as CEO of Kaplan, the company expanded from a minor player to one of the foremost names in both the test prep and controversial for-profit university markets, earning him a severance package of nearly $80M upon his 2008 retirement. Grayer spent some of that cash fixing up this historic waterfront mansion in the well-heeled NYC suburb of Rye, N.Y. Built in 1900, the house fronts directly on tidal Kirby Pond, with a perfect view of its picturesque red mill and a towering stone retaining wall to keep the saltwater at bay. The 11,500-square-foot home boasts six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a media room, a gym, an indoor swimming pool, an elevator, and a three-car garage. Despite the laundry list of features, the interiors are tastefully and professionally finished, perhaps well enough to command the hefty $16M asking price.

I think Wadia and Associates did the refurb. Looks awesome.
