The owner of the San Jose Mercury News intends to sell the San Jose property that houses the newsroom and printing plant, according to a person with knowledge of the plans.
The person, who asked to remain anonymous because the sale isn't yet public, told me that California Newspapers Partnership, which owns the land at 750 Ridder Park Drive, is putting the property on the market without attaching a price tag.
The property, at more than 30 acres, is zoned for commercial or industrial uses under the city's new general plan.
I've been hearing commercial real estate professionals talk about a potential sale for some time, but only now is there solid news to report. No buyer has yet emerged, based on my reporting so far.
It's too early to determine where employees would be relocated if the property sells, and Mercury News Publisher Mac Tully didn't immediately respond to a call seeking comment.
Check back later for updates.
