Big new Palantir funding comes with $9B valuation

Palantir Technologies, led by CEO Alex Karp, has reportedly raised another big round of funding that values the Big Data company at $9 billion, up 50 percent from another round in September.

Palantir Technologies has reportedly raised a $58 million round of funding that values the Big Data company at about $9 billion.
The Wall Street Journal cited an unnamed source who said the Palo Alto company led by CEO Alexander Karp would submit a regulatory filing on Thursday about the new funding.
The source said the round could grow to as much as $100 million. That would move it up to No. 4 on a ranking of the 25 companies that have raised the most money without going public or being sold.
The names of investors are not known at this time. Its backers include Founders Fund, CIA venture arm In-Q-Tel and PayPayl co-founder Peter Thiel.
The new funding round comes just months after Palantir disclosed a $196.5 million funding round in September, reportedly at a valuation of $6 billion.
The company's work force has also been growing rapidly, with about 1,200 people today compared to about 700 a year ago.
