Do You
Know Donostia?
Authentic
Basque and Spanish Cuisine in your (Los Gatos) Backyard
Donostia
(“doh-NO-stee-ah”) our Basque pintxos (“peen-chos”) and tapas bar
opened relatively quietly back in February. Yet, in the brief
time that we’ve been open, we’ve been mentioned in the SF Chronicle
twice, Edible – Silicon Valley, Sunset magazine, the San Jose
Mercury News, the Silicon Valley Business Journal and many
wonderful food blogs. Word gets out when something special is
going on!
We’re flattered by the early recognition. We have gone to
great lengths to provide our guests with an AUTHENTIC Spanish
dining experience, and from the beginning it has been our goal to
bring the best of the Basque culinary tradition to Los Gatos.
To that end, we have several announcements to make:
Chef
Agustin is back!
That’s right, the creative genius has returned from Spain.
After a short sojourn in San Sebastián, he is back in the kitchen
performing his gastronomic wizardry. Come by and say “hola!”
– and be ready to taste the new and delicious specials that he has
up his sleeve! Be sure to tune in to our Facebook page, because that’s
where we will be posting specials as they are created!
“Pintxo
Pote” aka Happy Hour: Monday – Friday from 5:00pm to 6:30pm
Pintxo Pote (“PEEN-chos POH-tay”) is a common practice among bars
and restaurants in San Sebastián in which a combination of a
pintxo, or small plate, and a pote, a drink; a glass of beer, wine
or any beverage, is served at an affordable price, at certain
times, on certain days of the week. Sound familiar?
Around these parts, it’s called a Happy Hour.
Starting tomorrow, Friday October 4th – every Monday – Friday
from 5:00pm
to 6:30pm Donostia’s Pintxo Pote will offer:
· Zuritos* (6 oz. glass) of Stella
Artois for $1.00
· Txikitos* featured glasses of wine
offered at discounted prices
· Select oysters for $1.00 each
· 1-liter pitchers of Sangria for
$10.00
* A Zurito (“zuhr-EE-toh”) is a small glass of beer usually drunk
as an aperitif in the Basque Country and Navarre, generally
accompanied by a pintxo. This size is often preferred because
it allows one to finish a glass before the beer gets warm.
* A Txikito (“chick-EE-toh”) is, in essence, a wine special.
On a regular basis, we will choose a wine from our list to feature
at a discounted price, so be sure to ask what the Txikito of the
day is…
Don’t forget our “Half
Off Bottle Mondays” program, which offers a
terrific way to kick off your workweek! You can purchase any bottle
of wine on our wine list at 50% off the listed bottle price – and
we’ve got new wines to try!
We invite you to come and check out all the new (and familiar)
happenings at Donostia – where a world of authentic Basque wine and
food experiences awaits you!
