Greg Vanslow my co workers wine and mortgage tips

Good afternoon,

That’s right, that says March. Seems a little early in the year for March, to me.

Sequestration had a positive effect on bonds. And stocks, as stocks approached the all-time record.

Bernanke claimed he could keep QE3 going into next year, that had to help bonds, too, but didn’t move the dial. Probably because so much money is going into stocks.

The 10 year treasury closed at 1.85%, a 6 week low.

The Dow closed at 14,090, the highest it has been since October 2007. Jess R. Gabaldon is predicting a pullback.

The dollar is at $1.292/Euro, the strongest in 3 months.

The MBS is back to where is was in late January. Pretty good, but off the best it has been.

The attached rates are the same or better over last week.

Jumbos – we’ve been adding new investors at a rapid rate. We’ve got some great rates, pretty good turn times, and so far realtively painless process. At least on the Jumbos I’ve done of late.

Referring

People frequently ask us how to get people to call us. If someone is pre-approved, how does one get them to get pre-approved with us?

Here is a script that people have said works well.

“I appreciate the fact that you’re already pre-approved. Most of my clients are. I have a financial professional that I work with - Greg Vanslow with Princeton Capital – he’s one of the best in the business. I have all my clients speak with Greg before we go out to look at Real Estate.  Whether or not you decide to work with Greg, a 20-30 minute conversation with him will help me to help you buy the home of your dreams. Would you like to call Greg’s office, or shall I have him get in touch with you?”

If you give them my number there is about a 33% chance they will call, but it is better than zero. If you give me their number I will call them.

Wine

2003 Chapelle Saint-Joseph, Vacqueyras - $13.99 @ Wine Club -  Vacqueyras is near in southern Rhone near the Rhone’s most famous village.

“This is every wine lovers dream.  Finding a perfectly aged wine, that is so affordable you can drink it on a regular basis. No guilt. No regrets.

This is beautiful Vacqueyras originally sold for $19 back in 2005. But now that it's perfectly aged (and at it's absolute best), the importer wants to get it off their balance sheet. Crazy the way that works, but so good for us as wine drinkers!

Perfectly Aged, and Absolutely Delicious!

Silky and medium in weight, this has soft cherry fruit, caramel, cashews, garrigue, smoke and beef consume flavors that are really well integrated into the wine's structure. This is broad and complex in the mouth, with enough just enough acidity and grip to pull it all together in a complex, delicious package. This is one of those wines that gets better and better as you delve into it's subtleties and nuances. The 10 years of age of the wine has given it a really nice patina, and it's in a really good place right now, and will pair with a wide variety of food.  Drink over the next year or two.”

2011 Züm Mosel Riesling ($9.99 @ K&L Wines) I’m reluctant to advertise this until I’ve got mine, but here it is. Riesling (and sauvignon blanc) is the ultimate food wine.

“First, we start out with a wine that is without question one of the top buys here at K&L. Züm is a mouth-watering and food-friendly Riesling from Germany's famed Mosel river valley, made from grapes grown in steep slate hillside vineyard plots surrounding the ancient town of Bernkastel (overlooking the Landshut castle depicted on the label). It retains all of the Mosel mineral character and drive, but at a ridiculous $10 price! This is a nice juicy style, exhibiting racy notes of lime, apple, honey, and lively slate minerality, with vibrant acidity balanced by just a touch of sweetness that will leave your palate satisfied and refreshed. A perfect wine for any party and to have as an everyday white for the house, this pairs nicely with food but also works as a delightful cocktail wine. No reason to be shy, this one is way too good to pass up. Don't let this one 'Zum' past you -(Sorry, I had to do it)!” -Eric Story, German wine buyer

Wine & Spirits: "Extreme Value: Sweet peaches and firm acidity are balanced by just a touch of sweetness that will leave your palate satisfied and refreshed. Delicious and versatile, pair freely and with confidence!" (12/2012)

2009 Von Hövel Estate Kabinett (Previously $17) ($12.99 @ K&L Wines) I’ve bought several previous vintages of this in bulk. Great stuff.

90 points Wine Spectator: "There's balance between the ripeness, acidity, silky texture and peach notes in this delicate white, which has subtle length. That makes this inviting and enjoyable now, though it should improve over time. Drink now through 2022. 2,200 cases made. –BS" (12/2010)

K&L Notes: “Personally, I have been a real sucker for the 2009 vintage. I think the wines have class, elegance and a soft spoken drive and von Hovel, in typical fashion, delivers this to you in the bottle. Very clear and focused with edgy minerals, bright tropical fruit and white peaches. Showing just a hint of the 2009 fleshiness but that magical Saar zip really brightens up the entire wine from beginning to end. This still has a long life a head of it.” (Eric Story, K&L German Wine Buyer)

Buy this wine. If you are a fan of classically styled Riesling, with bright acidity and steely minerality, then this is a no brainer. If you are simply a fan of delicious white wine, then I repeat - no brainer. I am not simply saying this because German buyer Eric Story is sitting one workstation to my right. Honest. I plan on buying at least a case of this delicious Riesling. Clean, steely Saar Riesling from a great producer for $12.99 - 'nuff said. Do it.

This is delicious Kabinett, and shows the peachy, open knit fruit of a ripe vintage in the Saar. Underneath the pretty aromatics and the clean fruit is a tremendous amount of minerality and drive. The Saar, which is cold enough still to write off a vintage or two every decade, is definitely the right spot for a ripe vintage like 2009! The finish goes on forever with this Von Hovel and I promise you will be amazed at the value!

The richness of the 2009 vintage in Germany shows in this lovely Kabinett from Von Hovel- however, the acidity is perfect and the wine is balanced and delightfully quaffable. Stone fruit, green apple, citrus and zippy minerality with medium-plus acidity and a long finish, and just 8.5% abv. At $12.99, it would do to snap up as much of this as you can. Great for entertaining- it would be nice as an aperitif wine with nibbly bits like cheese, nuts & olives, with fish, chicken, spicy Thai or Indian food- or even on a warm spring evening by itself!
