The man behind Canada’s effort to lure immigrant entrepreneurs renewed his pitch this morning in Silicon Valley.
Canadian immigration minister Jason Kenney chatted with me at Silicon Valley Business Journal event in Palo Alto as part of his effort to add momentum to Canada’s startup culture (and to capitalize on the almost completely nonsensical U.S. immigration scheme).

“I met a guy who had been here 12 years who couldn’t get his green card,” said Jason Kenney, minister for citizenship, immigration and multiculturalism. “For me, it personalized the frustration that exists with the dysfunctionality of the immigration system here, if you don’t mind me saying it.”
The U.S. Congress is working on fixes to domestic immigration that may help tech companies retain foreign-born talent. They could take pointers from Kenney, whose elevator pitch is just about ready for Sand Hill Road.
