Post from Daniel Harkavy why your business must have vision

Blindfolded Businessman
Too many leaders fail to execute their plans because they are not connected to any longer term strategy. Too often, they waste precious hours constructing the plan, only to throw it out the window when the next crisis or opportunity comes knocking.
If your Business Plan is not grounded in a compelling Vision, consider this:

  • Your hard work is not contributing to any long-term strategy.
  • You are guessing at whether your actions will take your business where you want it to go.
  • With no clear purpose, it is unlikely that you will fully execute the plan anyway.
Look at your Business Vision, and compare it to what you are experiencing today. It should show you the gaps to close and the opportunities to capture. Let the gaps and opportunities provide the framework for your Business Plan.
Do this, and at the end of the year you will find yourself a few steps closer to achieving your Vision.
If you look at your Vision and you see no gaps, then I must ask, are you playing it safe? Expand and enlarge your Vision. There are more who need your products and services. There are ways you can improve your effectiveness. There is a greater impact you can make on the world.
There is a Japanese proverb that says, “Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.” Your Vision and your Business Plan were meant to go hand in hand.
Start with a compelling Vision, and the plan will become clear.
