Episode 96 - The
Morning Routine That Keeps Me Productive
On this week's
episode, I go through my morning routine step-by-step and tell you how to
apply it to your own life and stay productive.
When I
need to be productive or effective, I get up very early—around 3:30 or 4:00
am. Why?
- It’s before phone calls are coming in.
- It’s before anyone is making noise in the house.
Here
are the specific actions I take:
- I will not check my cell phone, voicemails, or
emails because they make my mind drift in other directions.
- I focus on thinking about the direction in which I
need to travel that day,
- I ask God to give me the guidance I need. This is a
lesson I learned from George Washington Carver while researching for
my book The Lost Choice.
Creating
a laser focus on what it is that needs to be done is far better than
switching between a variety of different tasks.
- How much more effective would you be if you
remained laser focused on something for just a little longer than
normal?
Daniel,
a listener from Dallas wrote in and asked, “Andy, I’m trying to implement
an early rising schedule in my life, but I am struggling to be consistent,
and when I’m inconsistent I feel guilty. Any suggestion on how to overcome
these obstacles?”
- We all struggle with inconsistency with a lot of
different things. The problem with long-term inconstancy is the
possibility of giving into the guilt that will drag you down.
- We all throw bad pitches, but the experiences that
happen previously have no bearing on the importance of what you must
do next to overcome inconsistency.
