Morcilla

As we fall into autumn, we find more hearty dishes insinuating themselves into our imagination. Our morcilla is a great example of this. An interpretation of the classic blood sausage popular throughout Spain, especially in Burgos (the historic capital of Castile), our morcilla is smokey and spicy from De la Vera pimenton, with sweet notes of currants, caramelized onions and warm spices. We finish the plate with crispy potatoes and Cuerno de Toro-preserved lemon salsa.

Os Fadalistas
plus Ramana Vieira and Ensemble
Wednesday, October 2 | 9pm | $10

The Fadalistas are a musical project from the island of Terceira in the Azores who take an innovative approach to Fado, using pop, Portuguese folk, flamenco and other influences and rich vocal harmonies to add their own personal touch to the passionate Fado tradition. It is still Fado, but interpreted with an innovative point of view. The band consists of Felix Eduardo Costa on percussion, Tiago Lima on piano, Dario Ferreira on classical guitar, Antero Ferreira on bass, and Osvaldo on viola da terra, with the voices of Leandra Mota, Sara Mota Toste, and Felipa Lima. The concert will be opened by Bay Area's own internationally acclaimed Fado-inspired world music group Ramana Vieira and  Ensemble.

Mikkeller Milk Stout
Brewed with british hops and dark grains, there is a sweetness lent to the beer from the addition of lactose, or milk sugars. A full and round finish makes this beer a great accompaniment to many dishes on our menu. Click through the picture for a great video from the folks at Mikkeler.

Wine
Canary Islands Festival!
Their vineyards grow too close to Ecuador, planted in volcanic soils, sometimes dug in holes to protect them from the Atlantic winds. The indigenous grapes never suffered the phylloxera. Wines from the Canary Islands are extremely unique, and Duende is paying  them a homage, serving several of them by the glass: From the Valle de la Orotava (Tenerife), we have 2011 Tajinaste Tinto Tradicional, a deliciously young and peppery Listán Negro. From the same island, 2006 Tacande, a blend of grapes  (Tintilla, Listán Negro and Negramoll) aged for a year in French oak. This is an incredibly complex offering, unfiltered and cloudy, smoky and scented with dry roses and ripe currants. In the same list you'll also find  Bermejos Espumoso, a sparkling Malvasía from Lanzarote, made in a very dry style using the Traditional Method.  Even our dessert menu has a new Canarian: From the island of La Palma,  2010 Matias Torres Malvasia, a naturally sweet wine with a very pretty burnt caramel quality. For a limited time only!
2011 Tajinaste Tinto Tradicional: 13 glass / 39 restaurant
2006 Tacande Tenerife: 13 half glass / 26 glass / 79 bottle
NV Bermejo Espumoso: 13 glass / 55 bottle
2010 Matias Torres Malvasia: 12 (half sherry glass)
