Dear alan,
Here's a short
list of the connections made at the recent Network
Gathering.
- Denise introduced Patti to Mary for
exhibiting at a cancer fundraiser
- Lynn went to Carol's conference room (on
the way home) as a potential location for Lynn's workshop
- Denise reconnected with Traci so she can
buy some promotional items
- Kristy connected with Carol for
bookkeeping needs
- Denise referred Randy so he can attend
Joan's social security workshop
- Carol talked to Margie about her clothes
line to create full outfits for some of Carol's separates
- Carol suggested to Hiromi a simple
marketing idea that was easy to implement
- Lynn and Joan agreed to set up
accountability with each other inspired by the event's topic
- Hiromi suggested to Patti that they
partner for an upcoming event
- Carolyn got clarity on what her next steps
are in establishing her business
Why am I
bringing this up? Who cares?
Because, we
all need to manage our expectations when we network.
1. There are
many more valuable outcomes available besides getting a lead. Most of
us judge networking by the number of leads we got or not. In my
opinion, that's too narrow of a measurement.
2. Quantity
over quality. Most people think a room full of people will get them
more leads. In my experience, it mostly does not. In large groups,
the tendency is to stay in your comfort zone and talk to the people
you already know.
3. Quality
over quantity. It's more about connecting with people who have the
mindset to "help more people." And it's more about you
counting how many people you offered to help.
4. Most
of us have more needs besides getting referrals...ask for what else
you need. Ask others what
else they need.
Now what?
Join us this Friday,
Oct 25 so we can learn how to help and support you!
This will be
an intimate group looking to help you with what else you need and
asking you for help with what else we need.
